LED Grow Lights: the Next Step in Indoor Gardening

by admin ~ June 10th, 2009. Filed under: General, Grow Lights, LED Grow Lights.

Indoor Gardening has evolved greatly over the years in the modern age. With the advent of switchable ballasts for Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium bulbs, indoor gardeners were given a wide array of options to use for small to medium indoor gardens that were cost effective as well as space-saving. As much of an advance as it was, however, it has been one-upped by the introduction of commercially available LED Grow Lights for the home gardener.

Whereas traditional bulb and ballast systems get incredibly hot and consume upwards of 1000 or more watts of electricity on a cyclical basis, these slim and efficient LED Grow Light systems have almost no thermal footprint and draw power at a mere fraction of what older indoor lighting systems used to require all while producing the right kind of light for your phytological interests. The most popular and widely available models feature a full spectrum of light that can be used for all stages of plant life from seed to flower and everything inbetween. They come in a variety of sizes, coverages, and intensities: everything from 15W LED lamps that can fit into normal incandescent sockets to 900W fixtures (I’m sure there are larger, industrial options as well) designed to illuminate an entire indoor garden.

One of the most attractive features of LED Grow Light systems when compared to traditional luminescent options is its incredibly low energy requirements and astonishingly high longevity– the bulbs never blow out! Also, a 300W LED Grow Light Panel is intended to illuminate a 25″^2 area– literally 70% less energy draw and nearly no heat diffusion inefficiency to illuminate the same area as a 1000W traditional bulb-based HID or HPS grow light! Also, traditional indoor gardening lighting solutions need to have their bulbs replaced from time to time (in my experience, about once a year) and the bulbs are quite expensive. LED Grow Light systems never require bulb changes or anything superfluous or cumbersome such as an external ballast, a reflector apparatus, or a heat shield so common to traditional bulb based lighting.

Watch this space over the coming few weeks to learn more about the wonderful new options available to indoor gardening enthusiasts as a result of the availability of these amazing LED Grow Lights. Also, learn how they can help you to realize your gardening goals in a more efficient and remarkable way than ever before.

I have just discovered hydroponics soiless growing to grow my lettuce all year long. I’ve used to grow my fruits outdoors in my outdoor garden, but had problems with kids and pests. Now I have moved my hydroponic garden indoors and begun cultivating my garden with hydroponics. The plants grow better and the organic results are wonderful. I would steer you towards hydroponics gardening to anyone looking to grow plants all year. Hydroponics gardening is a lot better than traditional soil gardens in my opinion. Just my 2 cents. I hope this helps…
